The GNA Board for Labor Relations is an independent body that
develops the labor policy of the Georgia Nurses Association, and
serves as the governing body of all affiliate units. The GNA Chief
Executive Officer serves as Director of the Labor Relations Program
of the Georgia Nurses Association and is accountable to the GNA
Board for Labor Relations on labor relation issues.
The purpose of the GNA Board for Labor Relations is to further
the purposes of the Association by ensuring that nurses have
meaningful access to collective bargaining through GNA; providing
effective collective bargaining services and strengthening the GNA
labor programs.
The functions of the GNA Board for Labor Relations is to operate
as an insulated body; establish and implement an effective labor
program within GNA; utilize staff and financial resources to
accomplish its purposes; generate additional revenues for operations
of the labor programs by assessment of the labor relations unit
members beyond the GNA dues; develop policies for GNA collective
bargaining members; communicate with the CEO and the GNA Board of
Directors concerning labor issues relative to the nursing
profession; assist in supporting and maintaining existing labor
units; and guide and assist nurses in organizing new labor units.
The GNA Board for Labor Relations consist of seven members the
Chairperson elected in the even numbered years and a vice chair
elected in the odd numbered years by the eligible members; two at
large directors elected in alternate years by the eligible members
and the elected chairperson, vice-chairperson, or designee of each
local Labor Relations Units.
The
elected chair and vice chair and at large directors each serve a
two-year term of office.
All
members of the of the Labor Relations Units shall be collective
bargaining eligible as defined by the National Labor Relations Board
or the Federal Labor Relations Authority, and shall be employed by a
facility/organization that has an affiliated collective bargaining
unit that is represented by the Georgia Nurses Association. The
affiliate unit is autonomous but accountable to the GNA Board for
Labor Relations and is guided by the policies and guidelines
established by GNA Board for Labor Relations. Only those members of
the Labor Relations Units who hold concurrent membership in the
Georgia Nurses Association and a Labor Relations Unit are eligible
to vote or hold a seat on the GNA Board for Labor Relations.
