 Commission on Workplace Advocacy

The Commission on Work Place Advocacy is a planned system of services and resources designed to support the professional nurse in the workplace.  Workplace Advocacy equips nurses with the knowledge and skills to use a range of strategies outside the collective bargaining agreement to ensure nursing’s voice and involvement in nursing practice and workplace decisions.  Workplace Advocacy is central to the mission of the American Nurses Association and the Georgia Nurses Association.  The commission has an elected chairperson and vice-chairperson, four (4) elected members and three (3) members appointed by the Board of Directors.

The WPA Commission establishes and implements an effective state-wide workplace advocacy program within the GNA through collaboration with organizations (i.e. ANA, GONE, GHA, GBON, specialty nursing organizations’) nurses and other health care providers and ensures that members have access to work place advocacy through GNA by:

A.    Facilitating development and implementation of effective programs and services for workplace advocacy.

B.    Strengthening GNA's workplace advocacy programs.

C. .  Evaluating the effectiveness of the WPA initiative

D.    .Implementing and maintaining a communications system that allows for collecting data and disseminating information.

The Commission also determines programmatic priorities for the Commission on WPA that will direct the use of resources and provides oversight and accountability for the Nurse Advocate Program within the GNA that assures meeting the NAP responsibilities.
